According to the latest statistics from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), the demand for plastic surgery procedures has increased by almost 9% since 2009. With over half of Americans now approving cosmetic enhancement according to the study, Dr. Luis Zapiach, a board-certified plastic surgeon in New Jersey, says he has seen a surge in popularity of aesthetic procedures at his practice in the wake of the new year as more patients want to start fresh and feel confident during the upcoming year.
At his New Jersey plastic surgery practice, Dr. Luis Zapiach says his patients’ desire for cosmetic enhancement reflects the latest statistics from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), which shows an overall increase in demand for plastic surgery procedures. The ASAPS study shows that the approval rating for cosmetic enhancements amongst Americans has now risen to above half the population; and cosmetic procedures, surgical and non-invasive, have grown by 9%. With breast augmentation leading the way nationally as the most popular surgical procedure, Dr. Zapiach says he has also seen a dramatic rise in enhancements such as liposuction and mommy makeover in New Jersey, particularly in the month of January as more and more patients are looking to make improvements to their appearance for the new year. “This January has been unusually busy with new patients seeking cosmetic treatments. Usually there is an increase in volume at the end of the year that is followed by a lull in the beginning of January.”
Dr. Zapiach says while breast augmentation in New Jersey is typically his most popular surgical procedure, patients have been requesting more body and facial procedures lately. He says the increase in popularity of treatments such as liposuction and facial aesthetics is likely a result of advancements in technology that have amplified results in those areas and minimized recovery time. While cosmetic enhancements are often on patients’ minds all year long, Dr. Zapiach adds that many patients seek plastic surgery with the dawn of a new year as a way to start off with a fresh new appearance and a confident outlook on life. “There has been an overwhelming interest in body contouring procedures, including tummy tucks and liposuction, as well as facial aesthetics, both surgical and non-surgical. Many patients have been interested in these enhancements for quite some time, and they’re finally committed to realizing their cosmetic goals.”
Regardless of which procedures they are looking for, Dr. Zapiach says he urges his patients to always consult with an experienced board-certified plastic surgeon before undergoing any treatment. He says verifying a surgeon’s capabilities and credentials is essential for receiving safe and effective results.
